6 Vegan & Cruelty-free Bronzers for POC

Many people still believe, POC do not need bronzers. That is ridiculous! Bronzers can be used by everyone! However, like most makeup products, each product should be designed for the skin tone and undertone. With that said, most bronzers on the market are geared for lighter skin tones. But that is changing! Companies are designing bronzers for darker and deeper skin tones. From pressed powder to creams, here are 6 Vegan and Cruelty-free bronzers for POC.

Bronzers (1)

  1. Koyvoca Beach Filters ($12.00/.35 oz.) come in 4 different shades to “provide warmth to the deepest of skin.” Described as a finely milled powder, these bronzers look amazing! Affordable and designed for POC, these bronzers should be in everyone’s makeup bag.
  2. W3LL People Bio Bronzer Stick ($24.00/.17oz.) has been reviewed as the “best bronzer” people have ever had! This cream-to-powder bronzer is prefect for those looking for a subtle glow that can correct redness.
  3. RMS Contour Bronzer ($28.00/.20oz.) is perfect for POC. Instead of adding a red-orange hue, this bronzer uses a true brown undertone to add definition and dimension to the skin for that perfect sun glow.
  4. Alima Pure Bronzer ($24.00/0.15 oz.) is described as a “light-weight, natural-looking” bronzer. As a loose mineral product, this bronzer is perfect for oily skin types. This product is also great if you want to build up your look–from subtle to the dramatic. Photo: Trinidad
  5. 100% Pure Cocoa Pigmented Bronzer ($37.00/0.32 oz.) is anti-aging and rich in vitamins. As most of the bronzers on this list are matte, this bronzer will give a person a light shimmer, so you can skip the highlighter! Photo: Cocoa Glow
  6. Vapour Beauty Solar Translucent Bronzer ($36.00/ 0.24oz.) is stunning in multiple ways. The packaging is sleek and simple, travel-friendly and protects you from environmental stress with their anti-oxidant blend. This bronzer is great if you are person that likes to keep your makeup simple, but on point. Photo: Spicy

A Vegan & Cruelty-Free Skin Guide: Eat This, Apply That!

I always go on about how you should apply this to treat that, but I wanted to learn more about the relationship between food and certain skin conditions. It is great to have an amazing skincare routine, but it would be silly to eat poorly and expect great skin. So after I did some research, I made this little chart to show the link between food and minor skin issues.

As Hippocrates said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

Below are the references. Please, like always, do your own research in order to make the best decision for yourself!

Part two of this primer series!

Dry skin needs the total opposite of what matte primers do for the oily skin types; they need hydration. So keywords to look out for are “hydration”, “hydrating”, “dewy”, “luminous”, or “radiant”. All these will help keep your makeup in place without you looking completely flat and dull.

10 Vegan + Cruelty-Free Matte Facial Primers

Today’s article is all about the matte primers! No matter your budget, there is a matte primer out there for you. Personally,  if the word “matte” is not on the product or in the description, I usually pass on more “luminous” or “radiant” primers because I am a oily messy as it is. Of course, it was wise to make sure your skincare routine helps with your oil production.

I also have include the ratings for each product.

Happy Shopping!

Vegan Mani & Pedi Combinations to try this S/S 2018

Happy Sunday!

Spring is here! This means your toes will be happy to see the sun and get a nice, well deserved pedicure. But like many people who get their feet done, I always have a hard time figuring out how to mix my toes and nails.

Well, look no further because I created a helpful guide. No matter your style or preference, you can use this guide when choosing your colors during your next medi-pedi appointment.

Mani Pedi Combo

  1. Metallic. Keep it classic with silver and gold. Try it with Priti NYC in Old Man Cactus ($15) and Palate Polish in Prosecco ($10).
  2. Neon. The brighter-the better! Manic Panic Claw Colors in Electric Lava ($8) is a bright orange, while Ella+ Mila Samba nail polish in Sunburst ($10.50) is a perfect, bright yellow to match the sunshine.
  3. Monochromatic. Mono- (Greek for “single, alone”) + -chromatic (Greek for “relation to color”). The goal is to find colors that are similiar, but not the same! Lauren B. Beauty nail polish in PCH ($18.00) is the cobalt blue with a purple undertone. To balance the darker blue, try a lighter blue with LaPierre nail polish in Kat Got Ya Tongue ($15)
  4. Pastels. Soft and muted colors look amazing on all skintones. Ginger + Liz Playing Innocent ($12) is described as an office-friendly pastel yellow, while Jin Soon Ube Nail Polish ($18) is a flattering lavender that is perfect for all skintones.
  5. Complementary.  If you paid attention in art class, you will remember the complementary colors (Red-Green; Blue-Orange; Purple-Yellow). These colors are naturally go together. Try this trend with Pacifica Nail Polish in Crimson Kimono ($9) and Côte Nail Polish in No.62 ($18.00), to balance each other.
  6. Ivory & Ebony. My spin on the the traditional white and black combination, these are colors that off-white and almost black. Adrianne K’s in Angelica ($13) is an sheer, off-white color and Soulstice Nail Polish in Kiev ($12) is a deep garnet hue.

Vegan + Cruelty-free Spot Treatments Review #1

It’s been a minute since my last review, but I have all my posts ready for future reviews.

Today, it’s all about the spot treatments. Even though the amount of breakouts on my face has decreased due to using serums, I still need spot treatments to help heal and shrink ones that refuse to go away.

Below are all of my empties 🙂

  1. Derma E Very Clear Acne Spot Treatment ($11.50/$23 per ounce) is an amazing product. Mixed with “anti-Blemish Complex of natural ingredients Tea Tree, Willow Bark, Rosewood, Lavender and Chamomile”, this product does exactly what it is meant to do. My pimples seriously disappeared the next day! Buy this now! A little goes a long way! The product dries clear and has a slight scent but nothing too crazy. (Vegan)
  2. Argan Republic Remedy Double Action Blemish Spot Treatment ($40) is a pretty good spot treatment. I love the fact it is lightweight and has a pleasant scent, however, I do not personally like it because it was oily and I felt like it didn’t help shrink my pimples. I believe this spot treatment can be useful if you have drier skin with occasional breakouts. It is important to note that this spot treatment should be used at night as some of the ingredients are photo-toxic.
  3. My Chelle Clear Skin Spot Treatment ($15/ $30 per ounce) this is my #2 favorite spot treatment. It is creamy and smells amazing. It is my #2 because it is expensive but I love it. My pimples dried up and were gone within a few days. I love this spot treatment too because I felt it helped lighten my dark spots in the progress. (Vegetarian)

S/S 2018 Makeup Trends (Vegan + Cruelty-free Guide)

Happy first day of Spring everyone!

Because it is the official first day of Spring, let’s throw away (or at least put away) our Fall & Winter makeup and get ready for the bright and warm weather.

I was inspired by the Harper Baazar article regarding Spring makeup trends for this year. Of course, I did a twist on this article and included vegan & cruelty-free options for the ethical makeup guru.

Spring 2018 Makeup Trends.jpg

  1. Yellow-Gold Highlighters
  2. Clumpy Mascara
    • I was shocked to see this on the list because I thought clumpy mascara was a big no-no. However, clumpy mascara is coming back. To get the look use Urban Decay’s Troublemarker mascara ($24). Remember to allow the first layer to dry before applying more to get a bolder look. (Vegan)
  3. Orange-y Blush
    • Now the article states peachy blushes are in, however, orange blushes look best on darker skin tones. Red Apple Lipstick’s Good Vibes Blush ($25) is the perfect blush for just that. Also, this blush was designed just for us! (Vegan)
  4. Pink Eyeshadow
  5. Teal Eyeliner
  6. Nude Lip Stains
    • One thing most people look forward to in Spring is wearing less makeup. However, you don’t have to be bare faced if you don’t want to, especially when it comes to lip products. Lip stains are a great way to pull off any color you want without constantly reapplying it. Nude lips are also in for Spring. Au Naturale’s su/Stain Matte Lip Stain in Mousse ($25) is the best of both worlds. (Vegan)

8 Vegan+ Cruelty-free highlighters for WOC S/S 2018 Edition

Happy Pie Day everyone! Hope everyone ate enough pie to last a lifetime. But moving away from pie, let’s talk about highlighters. I am so obsessed with highlighters. I am always jealous of people with huge highlighter collections. I personally only have two but I am definitely going to add more in the near future.

With that said, not all highlighters are created equal. Depending on your skin tone and skin type, finding the perfect highlighters has to be determined by these two things.

When looking for highlighters, choose highlighters with a peach or coral tint for tan skin tones. For those with darker and deeper tones, find shades with a golden hue. To make it easier, I also find highlighters in different formulas. If you are on the drier side, look for cream or liquid highlighters. For those with more oily or combination skin, look for powders to balance the shine.

10 Vegan+ Cruelty-free Lip Glosses for WOC

When I think of lip glosses, I think about my middle-school days where I would wore dollar store gloss to school. As time progressed, how I wore lip glosses has greatly changed. Lip glosses are meant to give your lips the benefits of moisture without sacrificing color. Whether you are going to the store or a wedding, lip glosses can and should be worn for any mood or occasion. Happy Shopping~!

*Non-Vegan options contain beeswax and/or carmine.
