Now that I am recharged from my Hong Kong trip, I wanted to discuss cheek color for us Black and Brown Babes!
Unlike lip color, coordinating your undertone to your blush color isn’t necessary. While you CAN match your undertone to your blush, just having an idea of your skintone is all you need to find the perfect color for you.
Because we are deeper in color, our blush should be brighter and bolder to stand out against our skin. If it is too light, the color can make you like clown-like and frankly, childish.
As the guideline follows:
- Orange: This color is a branch from the peach and coral family. Because true peaches or coral-like colors can be too light for us (unless you fall in the medium to tan spectrum), oranges are great because of its intense color. Like NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Orange ($6.00) and Silk Naturals’ Deep Peach Shimmer Blush in Palace ($6.50) one swipe of this hue is all you need!
- Red: If you are a red-blush-kind of woman (or man!) find reds that are leaning more towards a deeper, berry color or true reds instead of a pinky reds. Tata Harper’s Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint in Very Naughty is a ruby red ($35.00). Awesome if you are on a budget! Or if you are looking for a brighter red–try NARS Exhibit A Blush ($30.00).
- Berry: Raisin, wines, deep plums–all of them look amazing on us! Josie Maran Argan Infinity Lip and Cheek Creamy Oil in Boundless Berry ($18) is buildable for any day or night MOTD look or Shea Moisture Blush in Konya Plum ($5.99).
- Pink: These colors should be bright! Stay away from the baby pink or any other light pink (the color will stand out in a bad way). Fuschia, magenta, hot pinks–they are made for us. BECCA’s Beach Tint in Lychee is a hot pink ($25.00) that can be used under bronzers, highlighters, or powder blushes and Urban Decay’s Afterglow 8-Hour Blush in Crushed ($26.00) is a medium-tone pink for those who want a subtle bright color.
